Many people do not realize that cosmetology and its art form have had such a drastic impact over centuries that contribute to today’s culture. Your video did a great job expressing that idea and presenting good visuals to demonstrate what people went through for beauty in early years.

Critique:
This video clip matched with the learning objectives and instructional needs of the lesson unit by relating the history of hairstyles in the field of cosmetology to the application of creating hairstyles in present day. Terms and people were defined and identified in this clip. If I were the instructor, another video clip I might create for this unit plan might be an instructional clip on the actual hands-on process of creating finger waves or pin curls. The best things about this video clip are Laura's tone of voice and the pictures she implemented. Her voice is lucid and very calm; I can understand everything she is saying and I liked listening to her--she kept me focused. The pictures also were very important, because they provided the visual literacy that supported all her verbal information. Incorporating both auditory and visual instruction is extremely effective teaching, because you are activating different parts of the brain at once. If Laura creates more videos like this, her students will have no problem with skills in comprehension. I suggest that maybe the opening statement in the objective be rephrased, because it is extremely general in saying that the purpose of the unit is to teach student what they need to know for the unit. It's a bit reiterative. However, she does go on to include more details in the following sentences, about the knowledge students will need to attain. The summary was exactly the same as the objectives, so maybe something should be altered a bit so that theres a clear distinction between the two--if the objectives are a bit more detailed, they wouldn't sound so much like the summary. I thought that the different hair styles were shown and explained well in terms of the history of hair, but I wanted to know more about the actual process of creating these hairstyles. Though, I think that the process of creating them should be a separate video, so she did a great job in showing and explaining the different eras of hairstyles. If I were the teacher, I would definitely adopt this unit plan and video clip. The unit plan is very organized, and has clear-cut lessons that are all relative to the unit topic. The video clip is very valuable for motivating students, getting their attention, and making them interested in other lessons they're about to learn. I really enjoyed watching this video, and it taught me many details about hairstyles and cosmetology in general of which I was unaware. Great job!

Laura’s learning objectives matched the key concepts explained in her video. The images that she used were a great motivation catcher to grab students’ attention. This video demonstrated terminology and identification as well as mentioned the people who were responsible for many of the elements involved in cosmetology. One suggestion would be to add some background music to go along with the themes presented in the video. In regards to the lesson plan, she demonstrated good sequenced instructional procedure with details that were simplistic and comprehensible. Another suggestion would be to incorporate the ELA Learning Standards in her unit. This is a good unit format. As a future cosmetology teacher, would be definitely use this video to for visual instruction to support this unit.

This video clip I think matched up with the learning objectives and also meets the instructional needs by explaining how cosmetology started. If was the instructor, I might also include a video on how to do pin curls or roller sets. I love the pictures of video,

I thought this was an excellent history lesson, for anyone getting into the field they should really want to know how the past shaped the present, with tools invented over the years and the clips in the video they can begin to understand and perhaps and shape a new future.
