Matt- I thought your video was a good way to introduce your unit. It showed all of the important events and people that the students were going to be learning about. The best part of the video was that it showed the students what people looked like in that part of history. Some of the students might not have ever seen a picture of George Washington before. Something you could add to make it even better would be you speaking and giving a brief overview of each person and event. I think the video would be useful for other teachers and could see myself using it as well. Great job!
This video clip matched the learning objectives of the unit because it really made you feel their pain and depression, especially with the background music. It meets instructional needs because students are activelt immersed in the history and the overall tone of that time. I think I would have added more actual footage from the war and maybe some clips from old movies based on that time.
I would use this video if i were teaching about the civil war but I would make those few minor changes before doing so.
